About a week ago, pouring of the concrete foundation and footings began.   It feels so good to actually see progress.  Please take a look at the pictures in the Memorial Pictures page.

After having just reported to Air Station Barbers Point I learned that the command was doing some fundraising for the 1705 memorial.  Headed up by LT Heather Mieneke and sponsored by the Hide Away Club a 5K Run/Walk was put together.  Hundreds of people registered to participate making it a huge and successful event.  Thank You!

Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento held a remembrance ceremony, Friday, Oct. 29, 2010, honoring the HC-130 crew of Coast Guard Rescue 1705 that crashed one year ago. Friends and family from all over the country attended the ceremony.

The Laughs Unlimited Comedy Club hosted a fund raiser where the proceeds from the nights turnout would go to the 1705 Memorial Fund.  A huge thank you to Robert Condon, Laughs Unlimited club staff and owners, and to the comedians. It was a fantastically hilarious night.

September 20, 2010 the Placer County Council invited us to have dinner and  to give a short presentation on our memorial fund raising efforts.  Retired Captain Mohlenbrok spoke to approximately 90 men and women from the council.

The Placer County Council is our local division of the Navy League, headquartered in Auburn, California, and active throughout Northern California. They have members from all branches of the military, and members with no military background, all sharing in our various activities.

They  sponsor the Sacramento Division of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets, and the Navy League Cadet Corps Training Ship California. These fine young men and women (ages 10-18) demonstrate to us the great potential of our future.

The yard sale was a huge success.  there was so much stuff to sell at first it was a bit overwhelming, however, thanks to those who volunteered the sale went off without a hitch. Items that where not sold were donated to the Goodwill.  Thank you to all who came out and gave their support for the Coast Guard Rescue 1705 Memorial. Check out the pictures.

In and effort to raise money for the Rescue 1705 Memorial Fund this Friday and Saturday there will be a Yard Sale held at 5649 Adobe Rd. Information about the 1705 Memorial Website was handed out  to hundreds of very appreciative people at the Capital Air Show Sept. 11-12, 2010.  I love going to air shows. After talking with so many people, I always find a new found love for the United States Coast Guard. One story in particular from a woman who lost her sister to the sea made me very proud to be a Guardian.  Her story also gave me a much deeper understanding of what the 7 crew members of Rescue 1705 gave, "for the life of another."
